The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic-MAPOLY (now Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology-MAUSTECH), Abeokuta has declared a Black Week Movement in Abeokuta metropolis over the long unresolved examination palaver going on between the Ogun State Government and MAPOLY lecturers. The students who took the protest to social media reiterated their stand as no “going back” on Monday 18th December 2017. One of the students wrote on whatsapp; “students’ leaders use this medium to reiterate our stand as regards the “Black Week” movement that nothing shall discourage us as we remain dogged to hold Abeokuta metropolis to a stand-still until we get our exam date”.
The students described the news percolating social media from the commissioner for education, Mrs. Modupe Mujota stating that MAPOLY lecturers are to blame for the unresolved issue at hand as a mere threat and political ‘jorgojorgo’ from the state government. They posited that the students’ leaders had earlier met with the commissioner for education who assured them favourable consideration.
The commissioner, Mrs. Modupe Mujota as quoted (in the last meeting) by the students gave her words as at then, “when NBTE comes and don’t accredit Ogun State Polytechnic IPOKIA, we would commence National Diploma-ND admission in MAPOLY”.
On their own side, the students frowned at the commissioner for education for not keeping her unpolished promise. They, however, described the state government as playing unnecessary politics and toying with their future.
The so-called students’ leaders concluded that in view of the above, there is no going back on the BLACK WEEK and nothing would discourage them from achieving their protest come next Monday. They also urged their fellow MAPAITES to come out en mass with a touch of black or black clothes, handkerchiefs, identity card, etc as they congregate at skating ground by 6.am on Monday. #EC – IShola Fatolu
